Tipsy Tuesday – Sparkling Raspberry Lime Mojitos and an Award

Standard
I don’t know about you but one of my favorite times of the week is Tipsy Tuesday. I love being able to share the drink my son Seth comes up with each weekend. A few times we have gotten into the drink (OK, OK, we drank too much of the drinks) and forgotten to take photo’s, but I am much better about that now. Work first, play later Bobbi!
He has been wanting to try and make drinks that utilize the seasonal produce (makes a foodie Mom so proud) so he was perusing the fresh fruit when we went shopping and came across the golden raspberries. He asked me if I had ever had them. I had and told him that I really liked them. He liked the idea of using them so that it would be “different” from a regular red raspberry. As you can see though, it still gives the drink a slight pink hue.
He made a singular drink for a tester on Friday night so we could try it. Since we loved it he decided to go out and buy a large drink dispenser and surprise us on the 4th of July with a gallon and a half of Sparkling Raspberry Lime Mojitos!! What a nice son right?

We had not made plans for the 4th. The usual plan around here was to go to a neighbors house. They usually have 100+ people there because they live in the same inlet as the yacht club for their little town. So the fireworks seem like they are just for the party goers. It really is quite spectacular. But this year we himmed and hawwed and just couldn’t seem to agree on what to do. As a foodie I just wanted to stay home and make a few things for my family. I knew that Seth and his girlfriend Heather would be here and that was enough for me. We were pleasantly surprised when Kevin’s son Dylan and his girlfriend decided to stay home as well. We broke out the Mojitos, some baked buffalo chicken wings, and some fresh salmon sashimi. Then the horseshoe games started. Of course the boys started betting with each other. I was just happy if I scored some points!!
My son Seth with our “starter” table
Dinner consisted of 2-inch thick ribeye steaks, baked potatoes from the grill, and my Mom’s creamy pea salad. It was hard to pry them away from the horseshoe pit but as soon as they saw those steaks on the grill I had their full attention! It’s amazing how that works. Once the food was ready all you heard from the guys was a noise that resembled growling. It reminded me of a dog with a bone and knew there was no way I was going anywhere near those plates until they were done with their food! Then it was back to the  mojitos. Mmmm so good!!

Sparkling Raspberry Lime Mojitos
6 fresh raspberries (reserve three for garnish)
10 mint leaves (reserve a couple for garnish)
1/2 of a lime cut into wedges or sliced
2 tablespoons simple syrup (see recipe below)
Ice cubes
2 ounces white rum
Lemon lime soda (we used Sprite)
To make the simple syrup heat equal parts of sugar and water over medium-high heat. Heat just long enough for the sugar to dissolve completely but don’t let it boil. Allow to cool. Leftover simple syrup can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge. It will keep about a month.
In a cocktail shaker add ice, 3 raspberries, 8 mint leaves, and the lime wedges or slices. With a muddler (or the end of a wooden spoon) crush the mint, raspberries, and limes to release their flavors. Next add your simple syrup, and white rum. Place the cap on the shaker and shake well to combine. Pour into a glass full of ice and top off with the lemon lime soda. Give it a quick stir and garnish with the left over raspberries and mint.
ENJOY!!
I Was Honored with the
I want to thank Angie from A’lil Country Sugar for giving me this award! Check out her blog if you haven’t already. She is amazing at what she does and a wonderful person. How could you go wrong with that combination? So leave her some love from me!

There are many awards that we bloggers award each other with to celebrate their achievements and hard work. I have been lucky enough to be honored with many of them. But this award strikes me as being a perfect award for a die hard blogger. We are addicted! Addicted to cooking, sharing, and seeing (or reading) the happiness our addiction brings to others.

OK on to the of receiving this award;
1. Thank the person who nominated you and link them back.
2. Share a little bit about why you started blogging.
3. Copy and Paste the award onto your own blog.
4. Nominate up to 10 other bloggers you think are addictive
enough to deserve the award.

I won’t make you read my ramblings, which you all know I can do, but I will try to give the abridged version OK?

I was not a foodie until I was in my late 30’s. Until then my eating habits were atrocious. Vegetables were foreign to me and I liked it that way. Cooking was something that took minimal time. I was happier if it enlisted the help of Chef Mike (the microwave) or better yet Mr Takeout! I had many a delivery service on speed dial, trust me!!

But then I had a Dr tell me that I would be lucky if I would live another 10 years. You see my friends my eating habits had ballooned me up to almost 300 pounds! Yup I was on my way to being a Macy’s parade float if I didn’t do something about it. So gastric bypass it was. Scary issues arose from that but I am fine now. I told myself on to a new life, Healthy and fresh foods became my new best friends.

Then in 2010 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. During my recuperation period I had nothing and mean nothing to do. Under strict Dr’s orders, I was not allowed to lift, push, pull, cook, clean, or drive. FUN!! That was when I remembered my kids trying to talk me into starting a food blog to share my new passion with whoever might want to read me. I figured that would be maybe family members and friends, but what the heck? Typing was one thing I was allowed to do. So away my fingers flew, and here I am today. A little over a year ago I started posting once in a while and now I can’t stop! I also can’t see me doing anything else. I love it!!

Ok, now on to the good stuff, I get to share some of my favorite bloggers with you! Yay!! Listing only 10 is hard for me because I know so many awesome bloggers. But here are just a few.

Now, enough of me, go check these wonderful blog out! I know you will find them as addictive as I do!!

Blogger Inspiration ~ Sunshine Award

Standard

Just when I thought things couldn’t get much better this week. I mean BlogHer Food will have me in a daze for a while, I received a wonderful compliment in the form of The Sunshine Blog award from my friend Krista over at Everyday Mom’s Meals! Krista and I met sometime ago through Facebook and our blogger family there. Instantly I fell in love with her with her caring heart and upbeat way of looking at life. She is quite an inspiration her self so for her to award me is an honor!

As Krista explained it, the Sunshine Blog award is an award given to bloggers by other bloggers. It is given to “bloggers who are positive and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere”.
How the award works, thank the person that awarded you and link back to their blog. Then answer 10 questions about yourself (it is nice to get to know each other better).
Select 10 bloggers that inspire you and link back to them in your post and let them know they have been given the Sunshine Award.
1) Your favorite color? All shades of red, from blood red to baby pink
2) Favorite animal? LOL I am a bit strange. I worked for Project Wildlife for many years and rehabbed many wild animals. I was also blessed to raise education animals for the San Diego Zoo as well as our organization. So my favorite animal is a possum.
My daughter Jessi and our education possum Noel.
3) Favorite number? 9
4) Favorite drink? (non alcoholic) Vitamin Water (alcoholic) Dirty Martini
5) Facebook or Twitter? That is a hard choice. I have made some wonderful connections with people through both sites. I usually have them both open most of the day
6) Good movie or good book? If I am alone a good book, but love a good movie with family and friends
7) My passion? Cooking has become such passion for me since I lost weight. I say I used to live to eat and now I live to cook. I love nothing more than being surrounded by my family in the kitchen, talking and laughing, and serving them a great meal.
8) Giving or getting presents? Easily it is giving. I like to make presents. At the holidays I will make baskets for people with homemade cookies, candy, bread, jams, etc.
9) What is your favorite day of the year? I love Thanksgiving. There is something about a day of being around your family and friends to give thanks for everything you have in your life that makes me smile inside whenever I think about it.
10) Favorite flowers? Roses, Sterling Silver (purple) or white
Now enough about me! Lets get on to the 10 bloggers I am awarding. This is so hard because there are so many wonderful people I could chose!! But here are 10 of them.

The Versatile Blogger Award 2012

Standard

It is so flattering to be recognized by my peers. As food bloggers we put our heart and soul into what we do because that is our passion. So when someone I respect singles me out for an award it is such an honor. That is what Candi from The Devilish Dish did by giving me this award. Thank you so very much Candi for putting a smile on my face and making my day!!

Now I get to pay it forward by choosing 5 blogs to give this award to. This is a very difficult choice because I know so many wonderful bloggers now. But I will pick 5
There are so many more that I could list! I wish it wasn’t just 5. But please make sure to check out other wonderful blogs by clicking on the links to the left hand side of my blog!!

I Received The Versatile Blogger Award!!!

I want to apologize for not posting this award sooner. As I said I was MIA due to surgery so I was very slow in taking care of this. Krista from Everyday Mom’s Meals, Deb from Debz Delicious Meals, and Robin from Knead to Cook, gave me this award. I was so shocked and honored! Thank you guys, you are all awesome!

The rules that go along with this award are:
1 – Thank the blogger that awarded you and link back to them.
2 – Share 7 things about yourself
3 – Pay it forward to 16 other bloggers and let them know you have awarded them.
7 Things About Me

I Have the Best Foodie Friends!!

Standard
I am speechless (and believe me THAT is hard to do) by the love that I have been shown from my wonderful foodie friends! I started blogging 5 years ago. Some friends of mine had blogs and I thought it would be a cool way to journal things that were going on in my life. I think I posted once in 2007 and didn’t post again until March of 2010! Then I sporadically posted a few times a month.
In November of 2010 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had been in school full time, but in January 2011 I had a double mastectomy and was forced to be home on “light duty” for several months. My kids had always told me that I should start a blog like Julie and Julia because I had loved Rachael Ray (never missed a show) for years. I blew it off thinking people would think it was silly or too copycat.
Once I was able to get up and about I had TONS of time on my hands with NOTHING to do. I was literally not allowed to clean house, do laundry, sweep, vacuum, etc. Now I used to think that would be pretty cool. But once I was faced with it I was bored out of my mind! That was when the blog idea came back full force. So I marched to my little computer and started a blog I called Bobbi Renee and Rachael Ray. I posted a few recipes over 3 months. I was determined to work my way through her cookbook, “365 No Repeats” but between not being able to cook everyday, and the worrying about copyright laws, I shut it down. Then I opened Bobbi’s Kozy Kitchen. I started with 7 followers and no idea what a Facebook fan page was. I never imagined it would get to what it is today, 500+ Facebook fans, 100+ Twitter followers, 50+ followers on my blog, and it is not really even about the numbers to me. It is about the wonderful, talented, and caring people I have met on this journey. I know it is said often, but I do feel I am truly blessed! Then I am even more touched that I was given this award again from 2 more people that I cherish very dearly.
Liebster means “beloved” in German. This award is a show of love and support to blogs that have less than 200 followers. I want to thank Mel, Katrin, and Angie for their love and support!!
There are a few rules for this award.
#1 Show your love to the blogger(s) that gave you this award by linking back to them.
#2  Share you top 5 picks and let them know by posting on their blogs
#3 Post the award on your blog.
I am a lucky girl, not only because 3 wonderful bloggers saw fit to choose me in their top 5, but because I now get to share the love 10 more times (my first 5 can be found here please check them out as well. Tell them I said “Hi” and give them a follow too)!
Big Bears Wife – Angie followed me almost from the beginning. The coolest thing was when I started my Facebook fan page she liked me there and I realized she was a fellow blogger! Small world eh? She has always has supportive and kind things to say. Her blog is AMAZING but I am afraid I have gained 5 pounds just reading her last few posts!!!
Rich and Sweet – Bia Bia Bia….what can I say. Her blog says rich and sweet and I know it is talking about her food, but I can tell you the sweet applies to Bia as well. Bia is the kind of person you would love to sit in your kitchen with, have a cup of coffee (or wine depending on the time hehe), chat and cook up a storm!
A Health Jalapeno – Laura is just the sweetest. She is one of the first people that posted on my Facebook wall. She is kind, caring, and cooks up some darn tasty looking food!!
Recipes For My Boys – Can I let you in on a secret? I am jealous of Debi. Yup, I admit it freely. She has 3 little boys. I miss my kiddos being little soooo much. But even with 3 little ones to keep her busy she finds the time to come up with great new ways to keep them happy in the kitchen (and the rest of us too!).
Jam Hands – Ali is a sweetheart and who loves being a Mom. She cooks up some gorgeous stuff you have to check her out. She also is a fellow zombie fan LOL
Serious Food For the Soul – Nonna is one of those people that as soon as you “meet” her you know that you are going to be great friends. She is so upbeat and caring. I wonder if she ever has an off day, if so I have never seen it! Check her out, you will love her too.
and then, I ate it! – I don’t know Kay very well but what I do know about her I absolutely adore! We have a lot in common. We love our kids like crazy, love photography, enjoy meeting life with a healthy sense of humor, and really love cooking and sharing our food.
Mia’s Domain – Mia is one of those people that I would love to sit with and just talk. I know she has so many stories about her Grandmother, and traveling, and cooking, she might be one person that could get me to shut up! Seriously though, you have to check out her page. The pictures a lone will make you soooo hungry!! She has a vegetarian chili that just makes me WANT to be a vegetarian!
Coupon Loving Chicks – No, this isn’t a cooking blog, but no body said these had to be cooking blogs and I could not list off my favorite blogs without mentioning Mary and Vanessa. They are two of the, hands down, nicest people I have ever “met”. They not only help out with all of the wonderful info on their blog, but they are just genuinely kind and caring people. They send out little gifts, leave wonderful uplifting messages on peoples pages, and never fail to make me smile!!
Chef in Disguise – Sawsan is a terrific lady. I met her a couple of months back and without really knowing me she volunteered to help me with a problem I was having. Not only did she volunteer to help me, a stranger, she jumped into the favor so quickly and helped me out sooooo immensely! I really don’t know how she works, takes care of her kids, runs a terrific blog, and lends a helping hand to strangers in need 🙂
Well there my friends is my list of 10. Please check them all out and leave them a comment or better yet, give them a follow!!

It is such a wonderful feeling to know that people enjoy what you do.

So my top 5 are:
My Kaotic Kitchen – Robin is someone I have known for probably 15 years, way before either one of us even knew what a food blog was! But her sense of humor and wonderful talent in the kitchen makes her blog a must read for me.
Cooking with Mel – Mel is one of the sweetest people I have ever known. I love reading her blog to keep up, not only with her cooking, but her adorable husband Nick’s journey of weight loss, and keep a look out for her little 4 footed baby Pippy. We have decided that he and my little one Ginger are betrothed hehehe
Inspired by eRecipeCards – Dave was one of the first people to comment on my blog. He always has such supportive things to say. He also was the first person to feature one of my recipes on his blog. I was so honored!! He is such a positive upbeat person. You will not be disappointed if you check out his blog, I promise!
Everyday Mom’s Meals – Krista has been such a supportive and helpful friend here in blogger land. She is so down to earth and caring. Her love for her family and cooking comes through loud and clear.
Lark’s Country Heart – Lark has been someone I look up to in the blogging world. I love reading her blog, and her energy and passion is infectious. He attitude and personality is so upbeat how can you help but love her?
These are the top 5 bloggers so please take a moment and visit them. Send some love from me and give them a follow if you like. I know you will enjoy yourself.
