Tipsy Tuesday – Vampire Kiss Martini for #Halloween


What and awesome day for Tipsy Tuesday! I love Halloween parties so of course I was tickled to no end to be able to come up with a special spooky drink to celebrate with. I had this awesome martini glass that was my Mom’s and knew it would be perfect for a Halloween style martini. Then I set to work thinking of cool Halloween drink names. Being a huge zombieholic I of course thought I would go in that direction, but I had just been watching one of my favorite TV shows “Vampire Diaries” and it just seemed so right. I mean Vampires Kiss sounds like a great name for a martini right? Not so much Zombie Blood. Naaa that is more of a shot drink name I am thinking.

I know I have told you that, for the most part, my son is the one that comes up with the drinks for Tipsy Tuesday He is a wonderful bartender and loves the opportunity to stretch his imagination and come up with new goodies for our alcohol consumption. But this time I actually came up with the main idea. Of course he tweaked it for me when he came over. I used a bit too much Chambord and it was very sweet. That is not necessarily a bad thing. If you like a sweeter drink I would say to double the Chambord. But I like my martinis with a hint of flavor. That is what is so great about this drink. So easy to personalize it depending on who is drinking it! 
However you make it, this drink should be on your Halloween party planner!! 
Vampire Kiss Martini
1 1/2-ounce Vodka
1/2-ounce Chambord
1-ounce cranberry juice
Place ice, vodka, Chambord, and cranberry juice in a cocktail mixer. Shake well and strain into a martini glass.

Tipsy Tuesday – Raspberry Lemon Drops


Happy Tipsy Tuesday my friends! I am so excited to bring you today’s drink! Why you ask? Well I will tell you. This is a drink my son made for me. I have mentioned in the past he is a bartender extraordinaire, and he has come up with some wonderful drinks for me to post on Tipsy Tuesday in the past. But I had a special treat with this drink. I got to watch him at work for this one. Yes, I went to  see him “in the act” for this weeks post. He is so good (yes Mom is bragging) and the customers just love to watch him do his thing. I can tell you that if it was me behind the bar shaking those cocktail mixers as fast as they do the drinks would be everywhere but in the glasses!!

He knows I like lemon drops so he had been asking me to come in so he could make me his twist on one, but I rarely get out at night which is when he works. This night Kevin decided he wanted to go play pool so I was very excited to be able to try my “treat”. As soon as he made this for me several people at the bar wanted to know what it was and a few ordered one as well. No one was disappointed I can guarantee you that. I was not the only one to order a second one.
This is not a difficult drink to make, which is great for me!! I wish the picture was better but bar lighting is not that conducive to good photographs. It is really a pretty drink as well as tasting wonderful. It is sweet and sour all at once. Very pleasing!!
Raspberry Lemon Drop
1/2 lemon, sliced
1 ounce raspberry vodka
1 ounce sweet and sour
1/2 ounce Triple sec
Splash of lemon lime soda
1/2 ounce Chambord
Super fine sugar
Using a damp paper towel wet the martini glass by pressing it onto the towel upside down and twisting. In a cocktail shaker, muddle lemon. Add ice, raspberry vodka, sweet and sour, triple sec, and lemon lime soda. Shake to mix. Strain the mixture into the martini glass. Carefully pour the Chambord into the glass. 

Tipsy Tuesday – Fresh Peach Bellinis


WOW I am actually posting on Tipsy Tuesday! For those of you that have been here for a while, you know that on Tuesdays I post drink recipes. Well, between some family issues and the fact that the last couple drink recipes were out and out failures, there hasn’t been a Tipsy Tuesday post in about a month. I was feeling a bit down that my drink ideas were not working out. Mixology is a lot harder than you would think it is and I have realized that I was trying way to hard to make complex drinks. I know that I prefer simple and straightforward cocktails VS the ones that have a million and one things in them. Oh don’t get me wrong, I do love a few of those crazy drinks once in a while. But for the most part I want a simple drink that tastes good. That is when I figured if I feel like this you all probably feel the same way. Complicated recipes for food or drinks can be a pain in the rear right? 

So back to the drawing board I went. I decided I wanted to do something fresh, using seasonal ingredients. When I made the Watermelon Martinis they were such a hit with the family and you all. I decided to go back to the basics and make it about the flavors. So when the local produce market dropped off boxes of fresh peaches at the bar my son works for, well you know I jumped all over them! I immediately remembered back several years to a little Italian restaurant I would go to in San Diego. They made Peach Bellinis that were out of this world! So much that I went to the bar to ask how to make them. The bartender explained to me that they had a peach puree shipped to them and they kept it frozen. Then they would add a few scoops of that frozen puree to champagne and WALA a frozen Peach Bellini. 
I liked the idea of the Bellini, but didn’t want to make it frozen. I wanted it fresh. I knew I wanted to use prosecco as well because it is lighter and a bit sweeter than champagne. I really wanted to feel like I was biting into a fresh peach just like it felt like you were biting into fresh watermelon with the martinis. After a few tries  I finally decided to jump online to see what I was missing. I wanted to come up with it on my own but I was just missing something. I found Ina Garten’s recipe. Lemon juice! That’s what I was missing. SO simple but I never would have thought of it. Oh well, I have more to learn, but I can tell you I was happy I looked because these are fantastic! Plus I was going through way to much prosecco trying to get them figured out!
You have got to try these while you can still get those sweet juicy ripe peaches. They are fantastic!! Oh and a p.s. don’t think you have to spend a fortune on prosecco. We always use Cupcake and it tastes great in mimosas too!
Fresh Peach Bellinis
  • 2 ripe peaches, seeded and diced
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 bottle chilled prosecco sparkling wine

Place the peaches, lemon juice, and sugar in the bowl of a food processor fitted with a steel blade and process until smooth. Press the mixture through a sieve and discard the peach solids in the sieve. Place 2 tablespoons of the peach puree into each Champagne glass and fill with cold prosecco. Serve immediately.


Tipsy Tuesday – Fresh Raspberry Lemonade


Happy Tipsy Tuesday everyone! Does it seem like the days are just flying by to anyone else? I don’t know, maybe it is just because we only get a few of weeks of summer here if we are lucky and I don’t want it to end! We have had a few rainy days sprinkled about but for the most part the weather has been absolutely gorgeous! In the 70’s to low 80’s clear sky and so beautiful! This is what we Washingtonians live for the other 10 months of the year. It doesn’t seem worth it until it gets here and then you think “Ah yes, this is what we have been waiting for!”.
Of course with the gorgeous weather, nice fresh fruit drinks are called for. It is just a requirement in my mind. We were at a new local Mexican restaurant and I saw they had a margarita made with fresh muddled citrus, no mix, just fresh fruit. Yum!!! So when I was thinking about what I wanted to make for this weeks Tipsy Tuesday I knew it had to use fresh fruit. I just couldn’t decide what to use. I mean I could literally stand in the fresh produce isle and stare for hours at all of the beautiful fresh ingredients available this time of year! 

I decided this week to make a drink that can be with or without alcohol, your choice. Either way it is a winner. The fresh lemon and raspberry flavors just seemed to be made for each other and the vodka plays nicely with them. My daughter (Miss Picky Pants), who is here from California visiting for a few days, loved this is quickly drank two before I could bat an eye (virgin ones). I sipped mine and enjoyed the flavors. 
This drink is perfect for a beautiful summer day. Sitting on the back patio, smelling the grill cooking away, and just enjoying the sunshine on my face. There are those moments when time seems to stand still, this was one of those moments, and with everything seeming to wiz past so quickly it was a moment to cherish!
Fresh Raspberry Lemonade
1 lemon, sliced and the slices cut in half, reserve one slice for garnish
8 fresh raspberries, reserve 2 for garnish
1 to 2 ounces of simple syrup, to taste preference
1 to 2 ounces ounce of vodka, your preference
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the lemons and the raspberries. Add some ice and the simple syrup and vodka. Shake well. Fill a glass with ice and pour the mixture into the glass. Remove a few of the slices of lemon if wanted. Garnish with lemon slice and raspberries.

Tipsy Tuesday – Sparkling Raspberry Lime Mojitos and an Award

I don’t know about you but one of my favorite times of the week is Tipsy Tuesday. I love being able to share the drink my son Seth comes up with each weekend. A few times we have gotten into the drink (OK, OK, we drank too much of the drinks) and forgotten to take photo’s, but I am much better about that now. Work first, play later Bobbi!
He has been wanting to try and make drinks that utilize the seasonal produce (makes a foodie Mom so proud) so he was perusing the fresh fruit when we went shopping and came across the golden raspberries. He asked me if I had ever had them. I had and told him that I really liked them. He liked the idea of using them so that it would be “different” from a regular red raspberry. As you can see though, it still gives the drink a slight pink hue. 
He made a singular drink for a tester on Friday night so we could try it. Since we loved it he decided to go out and buy a large drink dispenser and surprise us on the 4th of July with a gallon and a half of Sparkling Raspberry Lime Mojitos!! What a nice son right? 

We had not made plans for the 4th. The usual plan around here was to go to a neighbors house. They usually have 100+ people there because they live in the same inlet as the yacht club for their little town. So the fireworks seem like they are just for the party goers. It really is quite spectacular. But this year we himmed and hawwed and just couldn’t seem to agree on what to do. As a foodie I just wanted to stay home and make a few things for my family. I knew that Seth and his girlfriend Heather would be here and that was enough for me. We were pleasantly surprised when Kevin’s son Dylan and his girlfriend decided to stay home as well. We broke out the Mojitos, some baked buffalo chicken wings, and some fresh salmon sashimi. Then the horseshoe games started. Of course the boys started betting with each other. I was just happy if I scored some points!!

Dinner consisted of 2-inch thick ribeye steaks, baked potatoes from the grill, and my Mom’s creamy pea salad. It was hard to pry them away from the horseshoe pit but as soon as they saw those steaks on the grill I had their full attention! It’s amazing how that works. Once the food was ready all you heard from the guys was a noise that resembled growling. It reminded me of a dog with a bone and knew there was no way I was going anywhere near those plates until they were done with their food! Then it was back to the  mojitos. Mmmm so good!!

Sparkling Raspberry Lime Mojitos
6 fresh raspberries (reserve three for garnish)
10 mint leaves (reserve a couple for garnish)
1/2 of a lime cut into wedges or sliced
2 tablespoons simple syrup (see recipe below)
Ice cubes
2 ounces white rum
Lemon lime soda (we used Sprite)
To make the simple syrup heat equal parts of sugar and water over medium-high heat. Heat just long enough for the sugar to dissolve completely but don’t let it boil. Allow to cool. Leftover simple syrup can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge. It will keep about a month.
In a cocktail shaker add ice, 3 raspberries, 8 mint leaves, and the lime wedges or slices. With a muddler (or the end of a wooden spoon) crush the mint, raspberries, and limes to release their flavors. Next add your simple syrup, and white rum. Place the cap on the shaker and shake well to combine. Pour into a glass full of ice and top off with the lemon lime soda. Give it a quick stir and garnish with the left over raspberries and mint.

I won’t make you read my ramblings, which you all know I can do, but I will try to give the abridged version OK?

I was not a foodie until I was in my late 30’s. Until then my eating habits were atrocious. Vegetables were foreign to me and I liked it that way. Cooking was something that took minimal time. I was happier if it enlisted the help of Chef Mike (the microwave) or better yet Mr Takeout! I had many a delivery service on speed dial, trust me!! 

But then I had a Dr tell me that I would be lucky if I would live another 10 years. You see my friends my eating habits had ballooned me up to almost 300 pounds! Yup I was on my way to being a Macy’s parade float if I didn’t do something about it. So gastric bypass it was. Scary issues arose from that but I am fine now. I told myself on to a new life, Healthy and fresh foods became my new best friends.

Then in 2010 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. During my recuperation period I had nothing and mean nothing to do. Under strict Dr’s orders, I was not allowed to lift, push, pull, cook, clean, or drive. FUN!! That was when I remembered my kids trying to talk me into starting a food blog to share my new passion with whoever might want to read me. I figured that would be maybe family members and friends, but what the heck? Typing was one thing I was allowed to do. So away my fingers flew, and here I am today. A little over a year ago I started posting once in a while and now I can’t stop! I also can’t see me doing anything else. I love it!!

Ok, now on to the good stuff, I get to share some of my favorite bloggers with you! Yay!! Listing only 10 is hard for me because I know so many awesome bloggers. But here are just a few.

Tipsy Tuesday – Salted Caramel Pretzel

I had a little excitement in my world this morning. When I went to take my dogs outside in my backyard I heard a strange squeaking kind of sound. I sat down to drink my coffee while the dogs did their business, but the sound kept on and kept on. It seemed to get louder and more emphatic and then it finally hit me. It was the sound of a  bird, either angry or distressed. I quickly searched for my big dog (my little dog is completely blind so I knew she couldn’t be the offender) and found him in the bushes by my house. When I walked over the bird flew to the other side of the yard. That is when I saw the little guy sitting in the middle of the yard. As I walked to it Mom of course got madder and madder. He hopped and my dog thinking it was a toy ran to get it. I yelled and he backed off long enough for me to catch the tiny thing. I looked and looked for a nest but there are so many bushes and trees around here it was impossible so I brought the little guy in, put him in a box with a towel and on top of a heating pad on warm. I had no idea what to do. I used to work with a group called Project Wildlife for many years in San Diego, but as luck would have it I never worked with the birds (I was afraid of the owls and hawks they had to rehab). So I jumped online, found an animal rescue group, and called them. Turns out it was a fledgling and it is normal for them to be on the ground for a few days with Mom and Dad watching over them, teaching them what to eat and about dangers. I put the little one back in the yard and when I saw Mom I kind of shooed him in her direction. He fluttered to her and they had a happy reunion! Now I just need to keep an eye on my dog so he doesn’t look for his new toy!!
OK, enough with my wildlife stories. Let’s get on to the booze right? I mean this is Tipsy Tuesday! Well I was bouncing a few things around in my head when my son came home from work and said, “Mom we made this awesome shot drink at work last night you have to try it!”. I usually look more for cocktail types of drinks for you all, but he told me it was called a Salted Pretzel it peeked my interested. Every year I make chocolate covered pretzels for Christmas, they are one of my favorite treats. Sweet and salty? How can you go wrong with that?

So he quickly got to work whipping up one for me. After I tried it I first had another, then decided that it tasted like it had caramel flavor along with the salted pretzel flavor. Hence the name change. This is not a drink I recommend drinking all night. It is not a strong drink, but it is a shot and it is sweet. I think these are a great party drink as a little change to whatever you might be drinking for the night. During BBQ’s we are usually beer drinkers and after the BBQ and potato salad and coleslaw, this is a nice little “adult” dessert in a glass!

 Salted Caramel Pretzel
.5 ounces Pinnacle Whipped Cream Vodka
.5 ounces Frangelico liqueur
Lime juice (optional)
Wet the rim of a shot glass with lime juice or water. Dip one half of the rim of the glass into salt. Carefully pour the vodka and liqueur into the glass on the other side so you don’t wash the salt into the glass. ENJOY!!!

Tipsy Tuesday – Killer Kool-Aid


Happy Tipsy Tuesday Everyone!!! As I  have told you in the past, my son works as a bartender, so I am never surprised when he comes home with drinks that have wacky names. I mean there are actually drinks called a duck fart!!! WOW I don’t think I want to try that one! But when he came home with a drink called Killer Kool-aid I was interested. I grew up drinking Kool-aid but I don’t think this was what Kool-Aid Man was bringing in his pitcher. This is a much more adult version of our childhood favorite drink!

I was a bit skeptical when he told me everything that went into the drink, but I should just learn to trust him. Just like I say the family needs to trust me with the food. He knows what he is doing. This drink is great for a backyard BBQ or just hanging out. It would make a fantastic adult Popsicle as well!!!

Killer Kool-Aid
1/2 ounce melon liqueur
1/2 ounce banana liqueur
1/2 ounce raspberry liqueur
1 ounce Malibu Rum
Add ice to a cocktail shaker along with all of the alcohols. Shake well. Pour into a chilled glass with ice. Top off with sprite.

Tipsy Tuesday – Summertime Sangria


Hello my fellow cocktail lovers! It is that time of the week again for me to share a wonderful “adult” beverage with you. I am trying very hard to find you new and exciting drinks to try. I mean just talking about wine isn’t enough, although I will share with you that my favorite white wine is Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. I found that wine about 6 years ago and have yet to find another I enjoy as much within that price range. So you know that I used that wine in this drink.

I love the summertime when it comes to cocktails! Seriously, summertime is just party time right? In the winter, other than the holidays, the only things I want to drink are warm and comforting (except for wine but I am an admitted wino).

I found this sangria on Averie Cooks and instantly fell in love with the ingredients. I changed it up a bit, but I will give you the original recipe with notes on what I changed. Mostly the changes all depend on your personal preferences, it would taste good either way in my opinion. If you love mango, pineapple, peach, and white wine, I think you will love this. Plus it is so refreshing, it is just perfect for time outside in the summer sunshine!

Summertime Sangria
1 bottle of white wine (Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, or Sauvignon Blanc)
1/3 cup peach schnapps
1/4 cup sugar (I omitted this step as the recipe calls for it to be “to taste”)
3/4 cup frozen mango chunks ( I prefer fresh and closer to 1 cup but frozen is fine)
3/4 cup pineapple chunks, canned (I used fresh and closer to 1 cup)
1/3 cup pineapple juice, whatever is in the can (I didn’t do this since I had fresh pineapple)
Combine the first 3 ingredients and stir until sugar dissolves (if you are using). Add the rest of the ingredients and stir. Store in the refrigerator. It is best to allow the flavors to develop for 8 to 12 hours if time allows (but of you are impatient like me it is still good after 1 hour). 
Sangria will store in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Tipsy Tuesday – Sweet Georgia Peaches


Happy Tipsy Tuesday everyone!! I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend with lots of good food and family fun. It was pretty quiet here. Ever since Miss Picky Pants moved to CA the rowdiness factor has reduced a bit in my house. She was my “partner in crime” a lot so I am kind of like Batman without Robin right now. She is doing really well, so my discomfort it easily put in the backseat to her future life. Besides the fact that my plan is that we wont be away from each other long. I may be moving back to California soon!! Anyway, enough about my life, let’s get on to the fun, and the booze. I mean this IS Tipsy Tuesday right?

As I mentioned last week, my son, the super bartender, was out of town so I was left to my own devices to come up with a tasty drink for you all. This week I had several ideas, one included blood oranges, but there were no blood oranges to be found. He told me about a drink he makes quite a bit and it sounded awesome. I adore peaches. I almost grilled some on the BBQ this weekend but was told very quickly that I had waaaaay too much food already planned any more was unnecessary *insert huge foodie pout here* Needless to say, a peach drink sounded fantastic to me.

This drink is so simple, only a few ingredients, that way you can enjoy your drinks without stressing out over how much of what thing goes where.

Tipsy Tuesday – Sweet Georgia Peaches
For one highball glass:

1-ounce peach schnapps
1-ounce Crown Royal
Orange juice
Peach slices for garnish (optional)

Fill glass with ices, add equal parts o schnapps and Crown Royal. Top with orange juice and stir. Garnish with peach slice and serve.


Tipsy Tuesday – Watermelon Blackberry Jargaritas


Happy Tipsy Tuesday everyone! This is the second Tipsy Tuesday that I have done and I was surprised by how much everyone really loved the last one. There were so many pins and tweets, it was great! I hope that you all enjoy this post as much as you did the last one.

I know I have mentioned that my son is a bartender, and he comes up with some terrific drinks, which I will be posting soon. But he was out of town this weekend PLUS I was cruising around Pintrest and found a blog called Endless Simmer. The have a section they call Endless Poptails where they make “adult” popsicles. I love the idea but know that I would be the only one here eating the popsicles so that could be dangerous. A drink however? Ya, everyone here was down with that idea! So I decided to take their Watermelon Blackberry Margarita Poptail  idea and run with that. That is how Watermelon Blackberry Jargaritas came to be!

So refreshing, I hope you give them a try!

Watermelon Blackberry Jargaritas
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 small seedless watermelon
1 small package fresh blackberries (I used 2 but I made several drinks)
Grand Marnier 
Cocktail Shaker (if you have one)
Small jars (or glasses)

Bring the sugar and water to boil in a small sauce pan. Boil until sugar is dissolved, allow to cool.

In a food processor, puree the watermelon flesh. Add a little of the sugar syrup to sweeten, to taste. Put the pureed watermelon into empty ice cube trays and freeze at least 4 hours.

Place a few of the watermelon ice cubes into the cocktail shaker. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker you can use two glasses together. Add a few of the blackberries (I used about 5), about 4 ounces of the limeaid and tequilla, and 2 ounces of the Grand Marnier. Shake to blend. Add a few regular ice cubes to the jars (or glasses) and pour the cocktail over the ice allowing a few of the watermelon ice cubes to fall into the glass. Garnish with a fresh blackberry.
